Is Amazon Putting an End to Small Business on Vendor Central?

Amazon could end small business sales on Vendor Central. This has been a cause for concern within the Amazon community for two years. Now, merchants are ready to create a contingency plan. Though there is no official word on when this change will take place, it could spell "catastrophe" for the unprepared vendor.

The “one vendor” rumor gained traction back in March when orders stopped overnight. The idea of “one vendor” circulated the forums as a possibility of Amazon merging vendor platforms. The temporary interruption created a panic for smaller business owners. The Amazon community speculated that the Amazon Hybrid Model was coming to an abrupt close. Orders did resume later that week with Amazon stating it was part of a counterfeit control effort. This failed to comfort the thousands of vendors that lost revenue in those few days. One Vendor rumors are rising once again, alarmed merchants speculate that the change could be permanent this time.

No Hinge Global client was affected, however account managers sent warnings to select clients back in March. Experts anticipate this change will affect smaller businesses.

Sellers with annual sales under $10 million will be at high risk. The transition will be a greater hardship to those vendors without any Seller Central experience. Especially if they need to adjust their strategy without warning.


In an effort to mitigate the impact, Amazon created over 50 news tools back in March to help small businesses. The biggest concern to vendors is that Amazon won't warn them before any of these changes take place.
